RHR — ResearchHub Rankings · Methodology 2026.3 · Institutional evidence
RHR is ResearchHub's independent university and researcher ranking methodology. It is not affiliated with QS, Times Higher Education or AD Scientific Index, and it does not reproduce proprietary data, scores or rankings from these providers. RHR uses its own documented calculations and permitted scholarly sources.

Institutional research performance in the OpenAlex article/review index, linked to verified ResearchHub university identities. Not a measure of teaching or reputation. This version applies to newly created 2026.3 editions and fetches the complete institutional research window rather than relying on the locally admitted paper corpus. Existing published snapshots retain their recorded methodology and weights. The earlier 2026.2 pathway remains reproducible as a separate admitted-publication-corpus method.
One source-native OpenAlex work per verified institution, using direct paper affiliations; articles and reviews only; retracted works excluded. Full institutional counting; provider totals are never added together. Five complete UTC calendar years before the release start year. The evidence cutoff is captured after refresh; the window is frozen even if processing crosses New Year.
Quality uses only OpenAlex work-level normalized top-10% flags; raw citation counts from different providers are never combined or substituted. A Scopus API key does not imply SciVal access. All five metrics and fixed weights are required. Explicit quality, country and OA classifications must cover at least 90% of the window. Growth requires at least 20 articles/reviews in the first two years. Unknown evidence remains unavailable.
Each metric is converted to a within-snapshot percentile among the same fully eligible institutions. At least two comparable institutions are required. Overall points equal the sum of each pillar percentile × its fixed points / 100. Availability measures coverage; source and affiliation quality determine confidence separately.
International collaboration measures indexed works with at least two represented countries, among works with a known country. Open access and quality use explicit OpenAlex classifications. Every rate requires at least 90% known status. Other permitted providers enrich publication context and identity; their citation totals are never summed or substituted into the quality indicator.
Configured credentials do not guarantee evidence is available. A source contributes only through records actually collected and admitted. Growth reflects the indexed corpus and may be affected by changes in coverage; it is not an estimate of total institutional growth.
RHR is an independent, evidence-based ResearchHub methodology. It is not a sole measure of institutional quality, teaching quality or academic merit.
All five metrics and fixed weights are required. Explicit quality, country and OA classifications must cover at least 90% of the window. Growth requires at least 20 articles/reviews in the first two years. Unknown evidence remains unavailable. An institution can be RANKED, EMERGING, REPORTER or INSUFFICIENT_DATA; only eligible published snapshots appear in official results.

Researcher layer
Where documented researcher evidence exists, RHR stores career and recent five-year H-index, i10-index and citation metrics separately. The two windows are never silently merged, and unavailable researcher evidence remains explicitly unavailable.

Provenance and reproducibility
Each metric stores source, source identifier, retrieval time, collection method, normalization policy and evidence confidence. Every snapshot records the methodology version, source-data version, calculation timestamp and immutable calculation hash.
Permitted evidence sources include scopus, openalex, crossref, semantic scholar, opencitations, orcid, ror, pubmed, europe pmc, unpaywall, datacite, openaire. RHR does not scrape Google Scholar or ingest proprietary ranking datasets.
Subject-specific calibration
RHR supports subject and subfield profiles, including medicine, engineering, computer science, cardiology and other declared fields. Field-aware calibration is applied only when a documented cohort baseline exists.
Citation, output and researcher indicators are normalized by documented field and time cohorts when sufficient evidence exists.
Configured profiles: 73; configuration is versioned with each snapshot.
