Abstract
Kaur cattle are local beef cattle raised by indigenous people in Kaur Regency, Bengkulu Province. While Sakura Block Plus (SBP) is a known feed supplement, the efficacy of substituting its rice bran component with palm oil processing solids (SBPS) to enhance nutrient utilization remains unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of SBPS supplementation on the nutrient digestibility of palm oil waste-based rations in Kaur cattle. A 2-month experiment was conducted using four 15-month-old male Kaur cattle with an average body weight of 101±5.23 kg. The study employed a 4x4 Latin Square Design. The basal diet consisted of ammoniated palm fronds (PSA), cassava (gaplek), palm kernel cake (BIS), and tofu dregs (AT). The treatments were the basal diet supplemented with: 10% standard SBP (P0, control), 8% SBPS (P1), 10% SBPS (P2), and 12% SBPS (P3). The results indicated that substituting rice bran with solids in the block supplement did not significantly affect feed intake or the digestibility of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), and crude protein (CP) (P>0.05). However, 10% SBPS supplementation (P2) significantly improved the digestibility of the fiber fractions, specifically neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and hemicellulose (P<0.05). In conclusion, while SBPS does not significantly alter overall DM, OM, or CP digestibility, formulating SBP with palm solids at a 10% inclusion level effectively enhances fiber digestibility in Kaur cattle fed palm waste rations.
