Abstract
A new selenite–sulfate compound Ag
4
Cu(SeO

)
2
(SO

) was successfully obtained through a conventional hydrothermal method. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction data analysis indicates clearly that the compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system of the space group
Pca
2
1
. Unit-cell parameters are
a
= 11.7371 (2) Å,
b
= 8.0846 (2) Å,
c
= 10.2759 (2) Å. The compound exhibits a layered structure, which is formed by the arrangement of 1D chains extending along the
c
axis.
