Abstract
On Kopaonik mountains in the authors’ opinion, three spruce associations occur within the belt of the described macroassociation Piceetum excelsae serbicum Rudski 1947, namely: Piceetum montanum Rudski 1947 emend. Mišić et Popović 1980 s. lat., Piceetum subalpinum Rudski 1947 emend. Mišić et Popović 1980 s. lat., and Sphagno-Piceetum R. Kuoch 1954 s. lat. In all three associations, and especially in the two last-named, the characteristic piceetal species are represented in satisfactory frequency, besides a considerable number of middle-European and boreal species. Balkan species occur likewise, especially in the shrub subalpine association Vaccinio-Juniperetum sibiricae Mišić et Popović 1954. Similarly, on Šar Planina mountain the macroassociation Piceetum excelsae scardicum Em 1962, could be subdivided into two associations, as follows: Piceetum subalpinum scardicum Em 1962 emend. 1980 and Piceetum montanum scardicum Em 1962 emend. 1980. Here too, true components of the piceetal flora are still present, but the elements of the Middle-european and boreal flora are less frequent. The two associations include several Balkan floral elements. The special richness of the shrub subalpine association Bruckenthalio-Juniperetum sibiricae Ht. 1953 should be emphasized here. It will be of interest to mention that some habitats of the species Listera cordata, Blechnum spicant, Equisetum sylvaticum and Sphagnum girgensohnii have been verified and some new ones detected on Kopaonik, and of Listera cordata on the Šar Planina.
