Abstract
This article explores the role of food and eating as part of migrant responses to displacement and strategies for reconstituting community and re‐creating cultural continuity. Drawing on Fernandez's concept of "the return to the whole," this paper considers the nature of the cultural revitalization achieved through food events, through particular food sent "from home." Attention is paid to processes of invocation, structural repetition, and synesthesia, concepts developed by Fernandez in his work on religious revitalization movements.
