Abstract
In the corpus of the Neo-Assyrian cylinder seals, only a few groups have been localised to one geographical area. The provincial seals and their connection to mainstream Assyrian art has been neglected until now. This is also true for the seal productions originating from the North Syrian provinces of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. The cylinder seals collected here show clear Assyrian traits but also display local traditions connecting them to North Syrian art. Besides the stylistic characteristics, the divine and human figures and the so-called filling motifs provide the focal points of my analysis. Based primarily on 18 seals, I identify the representations of Adad (Ḫadad), Ištar, and Sîn in the North Syrian region of the Neo-Assyrian Empire.
