Abstract
The main idea of the article is Henry David Thoreau’s conviction that being lost on the way, losing one’s way and, consequently, coming to a stop enables one to truly explore the present location and to establish the destination one wishes to reach. This perspective allows to observe the situation of a modern man and pose questions related to their actions to date. The interpretative material through which these problems are realized are two contemporary sculptures, treated as metaphors of the human condition: Albert Giacometti’s Walking Man and Piotr Stepnowski’s Walking Man (a form of recontextualization of Giacometti’s sculpture).
