Abstract
The topic of the article is the language of values of the chevs subculture, through which its users build the identity of their social group. We decided to use music from the rap genre, or more specifically its street variety. The research material consists of 36 songs by various artists and musical groups, and the first 50 episodes of the internet series Blok Ekipa, produced by SPInka FILM. They are characterized by a variety of topics. Based on the themes we have taken up, we have excerpted semantic circles such as: attitude towards women, attitude towards the police, life in prison, attitude towards people from outside one’s own environment, everyday life, attitude towards people within the subculture. The subject of our interest were lexemes from colloquial vocabulary and from youth and prison slang, which reflect the world of values created by representatives of Polish hip-hop and rap.
