Abstract
The study examined the economic benefits of integrating sport education into the secondary school curriculum in South Africa.The researcher explored the importance of integrating sports activities in secondary schools. It focused on how sport education contributes to employability skills, the teaching methods that can be used to integrate sport and the role of sport in fostering networks that benefit learners. A systematic literature review was conducted within a pragmatic paradigm using mixed methods approach.The data was extracted from different databases such as SCOPUS, WoS and DOAJ. Inclusion and exlusion of articles was applied and yielded 35 research articles.The findings were analysed using thematic approach with number of articles quantified in frequencies and percentages.The findings indicated that sport education develops transferable employability skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication and problem-solving which are crucial in labour market.It was also found that teaching strategies such as Sport Education Model, reflective learning and blended learning are effective in promoting these outcomes.In addition, sport education fosters valuable networks such as peers, community,instititutional and professional tha t provide learners with social capital and pathways to economic opportunities.Based on findings, it was recommended that policymakers should formally integrate sport education into secondary school curriculum.This help the schools to adopt innovative teaching practices.Also, there is a need for strengthening partnership between schools, communities and private organisations.Moreover, it can be suggested that future research should measure the long term impacct of sport education on learners career path.
