Abstract
This esay is the result of the studies to obtain de Master’s degree in Hispano-American Literature at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro’s Faculty of Letters. The production of Cuban female diasporic poetry began in the second half of the 19th century; however, it is a subject that has received little attention in literature courses at Brazilian universities. Consequently, this work is nothing more than a discreet attempt to give visibility to the power of female Cuban poetry written outside the island. We decided to approach to Iraida Iturralde’s book of poetry, La isla rota, from two interconnected angles: the work of the imagination and the notion of radicant; both expressive characteristics of a world characterized by deterritorialization and movement. Imagination conceived as a possibility of political position and not as alienation, according to the perspective of Arjun Appadurai (2001), and radicant in the sense of redefinition and negotiation with origins and not dependence on them, according to Nicolás Bourriaud (2002).
