Abstract
Abstract
High-resolution river bathymetry data are essential for a wide range of hydrological, hydrodynamic, and fluvial geomorphological applications. Unoccupied Aerial Systems (UASs) serve as flexible airborne platforms for carrying a range of sensing instruments, enabling contactless and non-invasive data acquisition, particularly in remote or hard-to-access locations. This paper presents a large, openly available dataset of UAS-borne water penetrating radar (WPR) and sonar/echosounder bathymetric measurements collected from seven rivers across Europe and Africa. The measurements were validated against ground truth reference data, showing good agreement and demonstrating that UAS bathymetric mapping can achieve satisfactory performance under a wide range of natural conditions.
