Abstract
Technological advancements have led to the implementation of newsolutions and advanced technologies in all disciplines to adapt togrowing human needs and to conserve the sustainability of theenvironment and raw materials for future generations. Newtechnologies have been implemented in the field of architecture recentlyunder the term of Digital Manufacturing (DM), which has influencedand established new approaches to architectural design, thinking, andmanufacturing. It has also become necessary to study what has beenpreviously accomplished in heritage or historical buildings and how tomaintain, modify, and adapt them to suit the current era and futuregenerations. This is achieved by using Reverse Engineering (RE)techniques in documentation, archiving, and the study and research ofnewly constructed buildings and building systems. The emergence ofvarious types of modern technologies has also revealed the inability todetermine the appropriate technology according to the specifics of eachproject. This research seeks to study and classify the mutual influence ofDM and RE on architectural production. Therefore, the study also aimsto conduct a detailed comparative analysis between the use of newtechnologies and traditional methods in construction, examining theextent of their economic, social, and material feasibility, and whetherthey are truly useful or can be dispensed with in light of technologicaldevelopment. This discussion also attempted to establish a specificsystem, making a selective checklist of criteria to choose between newand traditional technologies on an individual research case study on abuilding in Alexandria.
