Abstract
Intelligent design systems are developing adaptive educational experiences customized for student learning and professional advancement. The concept of "AI-enhanced interior design education" has emerged, integrating Artificial Intelligence with Design Education to create learning environments centered on the four essential pillars of design education: technical skills, creative ideation, cognitive design thinking, and professional preparedness. While there are an increasing number of publications on AI in architectural design education, there remains a lack of reviews that examine the evolution of AI and its applications in interior design education. To bridge this gap, this paper performs a comprehensive review of the existing research publications related to interior design education studies with the Preferred Reporting Items for Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) protocol, classifying findings into major categories to analyze the influence of AI on interior architecture education and identify emerging trends. This study tries to explain the different applications of AI, its educational characteristics, effects on students, promising future directions, and their long-term impact on learning outcomes. Ultimately, this review provides a foundational guide for educators, researchers, and curriculum developers to effectively integrate AI, ensuring that technology enhances, rather than replace, while also addressing the evolving role of the design educator, that will help students, teachers, practitioners, and researchers in making informed decisions about the efficient integration of AI in interior design for reshaping education.
