Abstract
Virtual reality applications have extended to many fields, including architectural education, since architectural education is a cumulative process of awareness related to primary sensory of space formation and spatial awareness, which supports the whole architectural education process. In this paper, a practical experiment is conducted to examine the impact of using virtual reality by architecture students, specifically assessment of initial spatial sensitivity. To enhance this experience, it was supported by a free walkthrough that makes student able to explore the architectural model to become familiar with it. The experiment was conducted through a workshop with the participation of two different groups of students, each completed a paper-based test designed to evaluate several aspects of space qualities in order to assess students’ spatial sensibility. Before taking the test, both groups were introduced to the same building but through two different methods: one group experienced it through a VR walkthrough, while the other group viewed it in the form of a short lecture, simulating the traditional teaching approach of presentation, So this research paper includes an approach to assess the effectiveness of using VR walkthrough in the framework of architectural education and the impact of this technological application on the architectural learning process, Also, to get students’ review about the experience and how much they were interested in it , that provides a comprehensive and comparative assessment includes a psychological and a scientific aspect of the application of virtual reality walkthrough in the framework of architectural education
