Abstract
There are many materials and techniques used in buildings envelopes. . Phase change materials are one of the smart materials to improve the efficiency of the building, which reduces temperatures, cooling loads to and costs. The research problem is using lack phase change materials and integrating them with photovoltaic cells in Residential buildings in Egypt to reduce high energy and costs. Therefore, the research presents the methodology of using Photovoltaic cells with phase change materials and applying them in buildings in one of the existing residential buildings in Egypt by a simulation program Design Builder software simulation program. The model was built, and input data were entered by identifying the location and then specifying three factors of each case: factor one, construction materials. Factor two: openings, and factor three: lighting. The research found after simulation in four cases, insulation materials were used in different thickness in envelope building, such as; phase change materials using Photovoltaic cells (PV- PCM), the results were reached in the third phase of total and net site energy being 67428.54 kWh. The total and net source of Energy was 167145.26 kWh. Also, the energy costs for the third case were calculated amounted to energy 7012GBP, electricity 6154GBP, fuel 4328GBP, cooling and air conditioning loads 2653GBP and lighting loads 3879GBP, which represents the lowest costs. This is considered the best case decreased the efficiency of the building compared state percentage 60% improvements relative to the baseline case to conserve energy without increasing temperatures and costs.
