Abstract
Objective
To analyze the reasons for delaying surgical treatment in patients over 60 years old with hip fracture in a reference hospital. Methods
Analytical observational study of patients over 60 years old with hip fractures, surgically managed in the period from January 1st 2020 to December 31 2023. Medical and administrative causes were analyzed. Statistical analysis with χ2 and Fisher, as well odds ratio; statistically accepted value p Results
Sample 80 patients. Age 77.9 ± 9.1 years. ICC 4.8±1.2. ASA II 57.5%, ASA III 36.3%. In-hospital stay 5.9 ± 3.8 days and surgical deferral rate 2.9 ± 3.1 days. Medical causes: CCI > 3 (OR: 2.8; p = 0.176). Administrative causes: lack of osteosynthesis material (OR: 10.7; p = 0.000) and lack of surgery time or surgery room availability (OR: 14.6; p = 0.000).Conclusions
Medical causes are more frequent than administrative causes for surgical deferral, but the latter one had a higher risk of being deferred than due to medical establishments.
