Abstract
Objective
The objective of the study is to evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes of implantable Collamer lens (ICL) implantation with a new central port design. Methods
This is a retrospective observational study of patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism who underwent procedures for the ICL (STAAR Surgical) between 2013 and 2022. Measurements were taken for uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), manifest and cycloplegic refraction, and intraocular pressure. Results
254 eyes of 135 patients who underwent. Of the 254 ICLs implanted, 226 (88.97%) were toric. Mean follow-up was 15.05 ± 15.12 months. Mean pre-operative sphere was -9.65 ± 4.46 D (-0.00--25.00 D) and the post-operative sphere was 0.07 ± 1.12 D (-5.75-2.50 D). Pre-operative mean spherical equivalent was -11.24 ± 4.35 D (-25-6.25 D) and -0.38 ± 1.16 D (-6.75-2.12 D) postoperatively. Mean pre-operative UDVA was 1.58 ± 0.44 (0.4-2.5) and the mean post-operative UDVA was 0.17 ± 0.17 (0-1.18). Mean pre-operative CDVA was 0.15 ± 0.12 (0-0.6) and the post-operative CDVA was 0.08 ± 0.09 (0-0.54 D).Conclusions
This study showcases a noteworthy level of visual and refractive efficacy in individuals who underwent implantation of ICL V4c models. The surgical procedure proved highly effective and safe for correcting myopia and astigmatism.
