Abstract
Bioethics remains underdeveloped in Ukraine compared with other European countries. Through a partnership between Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in Lviv and Loyola University Chicago (LUC) in Chicago, USA, we have developed bioethics capacity among a group of expert Ukrainian physicians and scientists. Key outcomes of our collaboration include three students completing a doctoral degree in bioethics through Loyola’s online program and seven others completing an MA and continuing to the doctoral program; integration of these experts into the activities of UCU School of Bioethics, including delivering lectures in UCU’s bioethics certificate programs; multiple peer-reviewed publications, presentations at international conferences, and opportunities to share their personal stories of applying what they have learned during the war; the establishment of an institutional review board at UCU to review behavioral and social science research conducted by faculty and students; and preliminary plans to establish an MA program in bioethics at the UCU.
