Abstract
Indian agriculture is currently undergoing a phase of rapid technological and structural transformation. Amid the challenges of a growing population, limited natural resources, climate change, and food security, maintaining agricultural production and productivity has become a significant necessity. Under these circumstances, agricultural innovations and advanced technologies have provided a new direction for agricultural development. The adoption of modern irrigation techniques, high-yielding seed varieties, balanced nutrient management, agricultural mechanization, and scientific farming practices has played a vital role in making the agricultural system more efficient, productivity-oriented, and resource-conserving. Against this background, the present study presents a geographical analysis of the impact of agricultural innovations and advanced technologies on agricultural productivity in Mahendragarh district. Both primary and secondary data were used for the study. Secondary data were collected from the Statistical Abstract of Haryana, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Haryana, and other government records, whereas primary data were collected from 250 farmers of Mahendragarh district through the schedule method. The analysis comprehensively examines irrigation development, irrigation intensity, micro-irrigation, solar-powered irrigation pumps, high-yielding seed varieties, the use of chemical fertilizers, soil testing, agricultural mechanization, and temporal changes in the per-hectare productivity of major crops. The findings reveal that, during the study period, the expansion of irrigation facilities, the dissemination of modern agricultural technologies, the increasing use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and mobile-based agricultural services, and the growth of agricultural mechanization contributed significantly to improving the productivity of most major crops. An increase in the per-hectare productivity of wheat, pearl millet, gram, barley, and mustard was observed, whereas the productivity of cotton was adversely affected in the final year due to unfavourable weather conditions. The primary survey also revealed that the majority of farmers considered modern agricultural technologies beneficial for enhancing agricultural production, conserving water, saving labour and time, and increasing farm income. This clearly indicates that the impact of agricultural innovations and advanced technologies is not confined merely to increasing production but has also positively influenced the overall efficiency of the agricultural system and the economic condition of farmers. Overall, it may be concluded that the gradual expansion of agricultural innovations and advanced technologies in Mahendragarh district has strengthened the process of agricultural development while enhancing agricultural productivity. In the future, greater emphasis on micro-irrigation, soil health management, the availability of modern agricultural machinery, the dissemination of quality seeds, and the technical training of farmers can further promote a more productive, competitive, and sustainable agricultural sector.
