Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of group exercise in supporting students' psychosocial recovery following floods in Langsa City. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 98 elementary school students from four flood-affected schools in Langsa City, selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected using a psychosocial questionnaire administered before and after the group exercise sessions and subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed that: (1) the mean psychosocial score increased from 36.93 in the pretest to 40.50 in the posttest; (2) the Wilcoxon test revealed a significant difference between pre- and post-intervention psychosocial scores (Z = 6.267; p < 0.001); (3) the effect size obtained was 0.63, indicating a large effect. These findings demonstrate that group exercise is effective in supporting students' post-flood psychosocial recovery by significantly improving their psychosocial well-being, suggesting its potential as an alternative school-based psychosocial recovery program in disaster-affected areas.
