Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of bench step-up training on the leg muscle explosive power of Patria Muda Sumber Harta Volleyball Club athletes. A quasi-experimental method was used with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 32 athletes divided into an experimental group (16 athletes) and a control group (16 athletes) through purposive sampling. The experimental group was given bench step-up training for 14 sessions, while the control group followed conventional training. Data were collected through the Vertical Jump test and analyzed using the Independent Samples t-Test assisted by SPSS. The results showed: (1) the pretest averages of both groups were relatively similar; (2) the experimental group experienced an increase in average jump of 7.44 cm (from 33.00 cm to 40.44 cm), considerably higher than the control group, which only increased by 1.06 cm; (3) the Independent Samples t-Test showed a t-value of minus 4.981 with a significance of < 0.001 (p < 0.05), so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted; (4) bench step-up training proved more effective than conventional training in increasing leg muscle explosive power. It is concluded that bench step-up training has a significant effect on increasing the leg muscle explosive power of athletes.
