Abstract
Objectives: This case study explores email communication sent by undergraduate English I students to their instructors at the University of Nizwa in Oman. Methods: The study uses a mixed-method approach and attempts to provide an insightful analysis of the politeness strategies used in email communication by undergraduate English I students at the University of Nizwa, Oman. Results: This study has provided an analysis of the politeness strategies used by a sample of 118 emails written by English I students, highlighting a predominant use of negative politeness strategies. The study's findings and interpretations can be useful for enhancing effective ELT practices, particularly in non-native English-speaking contexts. Conclusions: This study offers some insights for educators, policymakers, and practitioners in ELT for more effective ELT practices in similar contexts.
