Abstract
This review examines T & A: "Trainees in Action". Book 2 (Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE), a textbook designed for teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) within the Ecuadorian military context. Structured into five chapters and twelve units, the volume effectively aligns core linguistic competence with authentic doctrinal manuals, real combat equipment, and operational scenarios. The pedagogical design stands out for employing communicative and task-based approaches that integrate the four primary language skills, technical terminology, and military jargon to promote learner autonomy. Nevertheless, the reviewer identifies key areas for improvement: the reading texts lack genre variety, the speaking and writing activities would benefit from collaborative problem-solving tasks, and the strictly national focus omits international frameworks like NATO protocols. Overall, the work is considered a rigorous, highly contextualised, and commendable contribution to armed forces training.
