Abstract
TOWARDS A NEW LITERATURE IN 1929: WORDS AND CONCEPTS Having studied a corpus front Monde (1929) based on the alphabetical index and the concordances, we were able to make a list of the vocabulary of literary criticism of that time. We have listed syntagms (i.e. word groups), newly appeared in French, made up of n literary term(s) + n term(s) belonging to the rethoric of the Third International. These new terms and others, more traditional, tend to define the paths leading to a new literature that will criticize but not discard «the cultural legacy» and the contemporary creation and open them up to the new revolutionary prospects. The writer has to create works within the reach of the reader and, so, help him to become «a new man». This tempered and carefully worded approach sharply distinguishes Barbusse' s review, in 1929, from the literary pecularities and verbal excessivness of Breton's Révolution surréaliste.
