Abstract
«GRANDS ENSEMBLES» AND INSECURITY The paper is a critical review of Etienne Brunei's last work, Le vocabulaire français de 1789 à nos jours. The book is a quantitative analysis of the corpus of texts computerized at Nancy in order to elaborate the Trésor de la langue française dictionary (TLF). This corpus, wich counts no less than 1 000 books and 70 000 000 occurrences, is the biggest ever compiled. A.G. and P.L.'s observations bear successively upon the corpus, the methods, and the results. The scope of the material as well as the use of statistics make E. Brunet's book a major event in the field of lexicometrics.
