Abstract
«GLOBAL» SEMANTICS AND IDEOLOGY: THE «DOUX» LANGUAGE OF HUMANISM IN CONTRAST WITH JANSENISM. D.M. works in the framework of «global» semantics. This approach does not only examine meaning through words, but it presents itself as a system of constraints bringing together lexical choices, ways of speaking, textual structure, treated themes ... D.M. applies his system of semantic analysis to two religious discourses in the 17th century: «humanisme dévot» and Jansenism; in this prospect his object is neither «dévot» language nor jansenist language but their polemic interaction: thus we proceed from discourse to inter discourse. D.M. shows how the positive semes of the «humaniste dévot» discursive formation are generated owing to a process of «harmonisation» which associates with each pair of antonymous semes of the jansenist system a seme which is semantically complex and which is supposed to overcome the oppositions that this system has established. It is the structure itself of this system which receives political value.
