Abstract
The rock magnetic characteristics of the depression sediments, volcanogenic rocks, and bottom sediments in Lake Chernoye are studied. Maps of the distribution of rock magnetic parameters in surface bottom sediments are constructed. It has been found that, with increasing lake depths, the values of MS, Jrs, Js, Jrs/Js increase, while the proportion of the paramagnetic component and the value of Bcr/Bc decrease. The change in parameters is due to the granulometric composition. The rock magnetic characteristics indicate the complex nature of sedimentation in Lake Chernoye. In the Holocene, detrital, biogenic, and chemogenic (autigenic) sedimentation occurred in it. Increased MS values are characteristic of chemogenic layers. The modern Lake Chernoye was formed in the early Holocene, repeatedly drained in the past, presumably due to climatic changes. The most noticeable cold climatic event, reflected in the sediment structure and rock magnetic characteristics, was detected in the Middle Holocene. In the Middle to Late Holocene, the lake expanded on the account of thermalyl eroded icy strata of the depression and of ice veins thawing, which created an uneven bottom relief.
