Abstract
Despite the fact that the woolly mammoth Mammuthus primigenius (Blumenbach, 1799) inhabited the territory of Primorsky Krai in the Pleistocene, finds of its remains from this area are extremely rare and scarce, and the information on them have only been published beyond modern bibliographic databases. Even less information is available regarding the storage of the material found here, which limits access to it and impedes modern-level research on the mammoth in this area. The present study aims in filling these gaps by summarizing the data on woolly mammoth remains discovered in Primorsky Krai and providing up-to-date information on the curation of the specimens. A review of the literature and museum collections shows that, in Primorsky Krai, six localities with mammoth remains, containing from 1 to 49 skeletal elements, are reliably known. The specific features of mammoth bone preservation in Primorsky Krai are discussed. Radiocarbon dating indicates that the woolly mammoth inhabited the area of modern Primorye under both warmer and colder conditions compared to the present. The finds from the Geographical Society Cave (Partizansky District), near the village of Lugovoy (Khorolsky District), and near the village of Tikhovodnoye (Chernigovsky District) are kept in museums; others have been lost.
