Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the workplace, education, and family dynamics. Despite these disruptions, limited research has examined parental burnout within organizational contexts. This article uses the Bioecological Systems Theory of Human Development to expand the understanding of parental burnout and to identify its contributing factors. Unlike work exhaustion, parental exhaustion should be recognized as a distinct syndrome that requires a multifaceted approach. The study contributes to the literature through bibliometric analysis. It proposes Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Systems Theory as a foundation for a systemic model of parental burnout and its effects on work-life balance. Furthermore, structural gender inequality has not been adequately considered in the context of parental burnout, nor has the phenomenon been addressed from a systemic perspective.
