Abstract
« Intellectuals and workers unite » : a survey of the syndical activities of Germaine Dulac. Tami Williams draws upon original archival and contextual sources to retrace the political, syndical and associative activities of pioneer filmmaker Germaine Dulac. The director's efforts to promote and defend the cinema, as an aesthetic, sociopolitical and industrial phenomenon, span the length of her film career (1915-1942). In the tense sociopolitical climate of the pre-Vichy period, her role as President of the « Director's Section of the Film Technicians Union » (1938-1941) proves particularly complex.
