Abstract
There are many barriers to collaboration between music educators and special education paraprofessional (SEPs). Yet, music educators and SEPs often spend the most contiguous years with students. Communication and opportunities for collaboration between SEPs and music educators is essential. In this chapter, I describe the role of the special education paraprofessional and share research on how education professionals typically perceive the role of SEPs. I then share research on the benefits of collaboration between music educator and SEP and provide suggestions on how to collaborate outside of common planning time. I also provide additional resources for music educators to advocate for common planning time and other collaborative tools at the end of this chapter.
