Abstract
This research is based on the problems identified in science learning in class VII semester 1 of SMP Negeri 12 Mataram, namely: (1) Most students lack concentration in learning in class because on average they come from underprivileged families so that they require them to work after school. and some even work before going to school, thereby reducing the opportunities for students to study at home and resulting in when they are at school they are not mentally ready to learn. 2) most students consider Integrated Science as a difficult and boring subject, with a lot of memorization and formulas such as mathematics, (3) the teacher is not careful in choosing learning models or strategies. Teachers tend to carry out teacher-centered classical learning with the consideration that the material is completed quickly, (4) passive students, seem less interested in participating in learning because they are not given the opportunity to find concepts and are not given real examples in real life everyday. day. The results of this study indicate that the application of the Discovery Learning method can increase the activeness and learning achievement of science class VII.1 students of SMP Negeri 12 Mataram in the matter of Substance, the Form of Substance and its Changes. The activeness of students in the discussion group has been categorized as active both in the first and second cycles. Learning achievement in Cycle I, of the 32 students who took part there were 25 students who achieved or exceeded the Mininal Completeness Criteria (KKM) of 75, the percentage of students who achieved completeness was 78.125%, in the second cycle there was an increase in the percentage of student learning mastery results of 87, 50%, there is an increase of 9.375%, there is an increase in student learning activities and achievements through active learning, namely discovery learning and student responses to the application of the variety of active discovery learning.
