Abstract
One of the most important and necessary conditions for the sustainable development model is the identification of the means, methods, and instruments for its achievement. The green economy is considered one of the significant and effective instruments for attaining sustainable development goals at the level of national strategies. The sectors of the green economy—renewable energy, green buildings, clean transport, water management, waste management, and land management—also play a crucial role in ensuring a high standard and quality of living for the population.
The article discusses the current conditions and potential for the development of individual sectors of the green economy in Georgia, the essential challenges and problems, and the main directions for progress. It focuses on the assessment of the green economy in a sectoral dimension, taking into account Georgia’s specific context, analyzing the current situation in these sectors, and identifying the main vectors of development based on existing problems.
Sectoral analysis of the green economy is important both for characterizing the achieved level of green economy development and for evaluating its role in sustainable development. The article notes that the green economy sectors in Georgia have reserves for further growth and improvement. Moreover, for the national economy as a whole and for ensuring the country’s economic security, the development of such sectors as renewable energy and land management is particularly important. For the full utilization of the potential in these sectors, the following directions of development are defined: introduction of new capacities into circulation, modernization of existing energy systems, encouragement of energy-efficient investments, implementation of sustainable agricultural practices and conditions for organic farming, improvement of soil protection measures, and enhancement of land-use planning.
