Abstract
The use of ophthalmic preparations, such as eye drops and eye ointments, requires adequate knowledge to ensure proper, safe, and effective use and to prevent medication errors. This study aimed to determine the level of community knowledge regarding the use of ophthalmic preparations in RT 05 and RT 06 RW 05, Kenari Village, Senen District, Central Jakarta. This study employed a descriptive quantitative method. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a Guttman scale from 50 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using Microsoft Excel and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. The results showed that the overall level of community knowledge regarding the use of ophthalmic preparations was 74.71%, which was categorized as moderate. The findings indicate that respondents had adequate knowledge regarding the proper use and storage of ophthalmic preparations. However, some aspects of ophthalmic medication use still require improvement through appropriate health education. Providing accurate information about the correct administration, handling, and storage of ophthalmic preparations is important to minimize medication errors and improve the safety of medication use. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the community’s knowledge regarding the use of ophthalmic preparations in the study area was categorized as moderate. Further education is recommended to improve community understanding and promote appropriate ophthalmic medication practices.
