Abstract
Objective To explore the application effect of quality control circle (QCC) activity in improving the return-to-sport rate of patients after surgery for meniscal injury. Methods A QCC team was established, and “improving the return-to-sport rate of patients after surgery for meniscal injury” was selected as the activity theme. Forty patients who underwent surgery for meniscal injury in the Department of Orthopedics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from February 28 to April 30, 2024, were included as the control group. After the implementation of QCC activity, another 40 patients who underwent surgery for meniscal injury from February 1 to May 31, 2025, were included as the observation group. The PDCA cycle was adopted to promote the QCC activity, including circle formation, theme selection, current situation analysis, goal setting, cause analysis, true cause verification, countermeasure formulation and implementation, effect evaluation, and standardization. Improvements were carried out around multidisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based training, visualized rehabilitation education, and hospital-family extended nursing. The return-to-sport rate and Tegner score were compared between the two groups. Results After the QCC activity, the return-to-sport rate of patients after surgery for meniscal injury increased from 37. 50% (15/40) to 80. 00% (32/40) (χ²=14. 907, P<0. 01). The target achievement rate of the QCC activity was 130. 97%, and the progress rate was 113. 33%. The Tegner score in the observation group was 3 (2, 4), which was higher than 3 (2, 3) in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P=0. 049). After the implementation of QCC activity, the circle members showed positive improvements in problem-solving ability, service awareness, cohesion, personal ability, quality control techniques, and communication skills. Conclusion QCC activity improved the return-to-sport rate of patients after surgery for meniscal injury, promoted the recovery of knee joint function, and enhanced the nursing team members’ communication ability, problem-solving ability, and team cohesion.
