Abstract
The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized multiple sectors, with
education being one of its key beneficiaries. This paper explores the utility of AI in fostering
interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning within Nigerian tertiary institutions, with a
specific focus on the subjects of History and Social Studies. In the context of the 21st century, AI
technologies offer unique opportunities for bridging disciplines, enhancing pedagogical practices,
and fostering deeper, more collaborative learning experiences. The study delves into how AI tools,
such as data analytics, machine learning, and intelligent tutoring systems, can be integrated into
the curriculum to not only aid teachers in delivering content but also empower students to engage
in critical thinking and problem-solving across disciplines. Additionally, the paper highlights
historical and contemporary challenges in Nigerian education, particularly the limitations of
traditional methods, and how AI can address these barriers. This examination is set against the
backdrop of global educational trends and the specific socio-political context of Nigeria. The
findings suggest that AI can play a pivotal role in facilitating interdisciplinary teaching by
enabling personalized learning, supporting teacher development, and promoting an inclusive,
technology-driven educational environment.
