Abstract
This study investigated the Influence of Parental Demographic Variables on Girl-Child
Education in Senior Secondary Schools in Oyo State: Implications for Guidance. Using a
descriptive design, a sample of 372 parents was drawn from a population of 10,500 across five
inspectorate zones through purposive sampling. Data were collected with a validated 12-item
questionnaire (reliability index: 0.79). Percentages, means, t-test, and ANOVA were employed
for analysis at 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed that parental occupation, age, poor
financial status, early marriage, parental illiteracy, and cultural beliefs hinder girl-child
education. The study recommended increased sensitization and guidance interventions to
promote the importance of educating the girl-child.
