Abstract
The implementation of the tahfidz program among santri is not free from various obstacles, one of which is a decline in motivation to memorize the Qur'an. This condition can be influenced by boredom, a lack of consistency in performing muroja'ah, and various psychological issues that accompany the memorization process. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, this research seeks to describe the implementation of Islamic counseling as a means of increasing motivation to memorize the Qur'an in the tahfidz program at Yayasan Islamic Centre Sumatera Utara. Research informants were selected using a purposive technique, consisting of five santri and one Guidance and Counseling teacher. The data collection techniques used in this research include observation, interviews, and documentation study. The collected data were then processed using the interactive analysis model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The research results show that the implementation of Islamic counseling takes several forms, such as providing motivation, giving advice grounded in Islamic values, individual and group counseling services, and personal mentoring. The application of these services helps santri deal with boredom and obstacles in the memorization process. In addition, Islamic counseling also encourages increased motivation, discipline in performing muroja'ah, self confidence, and the quality of memorization. Thus, Islamic counseling makes a positive contribution to maintaining santri motivation while also supporting the sustainability of the tahfidz program at Yayasan Islamic Centre Sumatera Utara.
