Abstract
This study was motivated by the fact that some students still lack discipline in participating in religious programs, have limited awareness of practicing religious values, and are not yet fully supported by the implementation of religious character education at school. This study aims to investigate: (1) the implementation of religious character education values, and (2) the supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of religious character education values at SMP S IT Ruqyah Syari’ah Buya Ronah, West Pasaman Regency. This research is a field study employing a qualitative approach. The research informants consisted of eight individuals: one principal, one Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teacher, one akhlak teacher, one eighth-grade homeroom teacher, and four eighth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was tested through source and technique triangulation. The results show that the implementation of religious character education was carried out by establishing objectives to develop students who are faithful, devout, morally upright, and capable of practicing religious values in their daily lives. The methods used included role modeling, habituation, advice, storytelling, parables, punishment, and rewards. The religious character values instilled included worship, discipline, responsibility, politeness, and self-confidence. Supporting factors included teachers’ commitment and responsibility, regularly implemented religious programs, adequate facilities and infrastructure, habituation, and teacher role modeling. Inhibiting factors included students’ limited awareness, differences in background, insufficient parental support, and the influence of the social environment. Schools are recommended to strengthen student guidance and cooperation with parents on an ongoing basis.
