Abstract
Marriage rates in Indonesia, including Jakarta, have continued to decline in recent years, coinciding with the spread of the “marriage is scary” trend on social media, which portrays negative experiences of married life and triggers anxiety among young adults toward marriage. This study aims to examine the effect of intolerance of uncertainty on marital readiness among young adults in Jakarta. A quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis was used, involving 112 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12 (IUS-12) and the Marital Readiness Scale, then analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 24. The hypothesis test result showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), meaning H1 was accepted, indicating that intolerance of uncertainty has a significant effect on marital readiness. The direction of the effect was negative (B = −0.164; t = −4.258), meaning that the higher an individual's intolerance of uncertainty, the lower their marital readiness. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.142 indicates that intolerance of uncertainty accounts for 14.2% of the variance in marital readiness, while the remaining 85.8% is explained by factors outside this study. The majority of respondents fell into the high intolerance of uncertainty and low marital readiness categories, confirming that intolerance of uncertainty plays a role in marital readiness, although it is not the sole determining factor.
