Abstract
Extractivism is an economic and political model based on the commodification and unbridled exploitation of nature. In Latin America it has deepened since the 1990s due to the increase in the prices of some minerals in the international market, the depletion of the main reserves in the world and the dynamism of the flow of investments from extractive companies.
Extractivism, as the basis of the capitalist system, has established an international division of labor that assigns some countries the role of importers of raw materials to be processed and others the role of exporters; This division is functional exclusively to the economic growth of the former; and demonstrates the center-periphery model.
