Abstract
The purpose of the article was to examine trends in the application of materials mechanics, focusing on the relevance of sustainability. To this end, a review of various bibliographic sources, including articles and journals, was conducted to describe the topic under study. Search engines such as Google Scholar and Scielo were used, selecting articles published in the last five years and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria through the PRISMA method. Out of the 10 articles found, three were analyzed. It was observed that, historically, humans have used local raw materials and implemented recycling mechanisms to extend the lifespan of certain products, ensuring they meet technical standards. It was concluded that the development of new materials for the construction of equipment and infrastructure, among others, is increasingly oriented toward sustainability, becoming one of the main challenges addressed in international agreements aimed at protecting the environment.
