Abstract
This review article aims to analyze the role of data science and citizen participation in promoting sustainable urban mobility in intermediate cities in Latin America. Using the PRISMA methodological approach, a systematic search of scientific literature published between 2015 and 2024 was conducted in databases such as Scopus, Scielo, Redalyc, and Google Scholar. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 25 relevant studies were selected. The analysis was organized around four categories: data science technologies, citizen participation, sustainable urban planning, and challenges in intermediate cities. The findings show that the use of big data, sensors, and GIS tools helps optimize public transport and make evidence-based decisions. Furthermore, citizen participation strengthens the legitimacy and effectiveness of mobility policies, although challenges such as territorial inequality and institutional fragmentation persist. The study concludes that integrating technological tools with participatory approaches is key to advancing towards more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient mobility models in the Latin American urban context.
