Abstract
This article addresses the application of certain artificial intelligence technologies to the art of conducting, focusing on the creation of models that integrate the complex components of a musical interpretation into a unified system. The article aims to stimulate the creative thinking of young conductors as they seek unique artistic approaches to realizing a musical work’s sound, leveraging the limitless potential of artificial intelligence. Music notation software such as Sibelius and Dorico, featuring built-in sample libraries, along with specialized virtual orchestras (e.g., products based on Vienna Symphonic Library or Spitfire Audio) that synthesize the sound of specific instrument sections while accounting for articulation and dynamics, also facilitate the preparatory process of score study. However, an over-reliance on technological methods can stifle users’ individual artistic vision. In art, the interpretation and unique vision each conductor brings to a work are paramount; indeed, it is this diversity that makes art so valuable. While artificial intelligence can provide material and accelerate the routine aspects of a conductor’s work, the decisive artistic choices – phrasing, tempo, and the emotional arc of the performance – remain the prerogative of the human conductor.
