The Impact of Technological Development on the Design and Construction of Sustainable Buildings

This study aims to identify the impact of technological development on the design and construction of sustainable buildings. The study adopted a descriptive approach, relying on a review of previous literature and studies. The results indicate that leveraging technological development in the design and construction of sustainable buildings involves employing environmental control systems (controlling lighting, temperature, and air quality), technologies that enhance the use of renewable energy, and technologies related to the design of the building envelope. This also includes building information systems, artificial intelligence, digital twins, and other technologies. The study's findings show that these technologies reduce energy and natural resource consumption, minimize resource waste, improve the environmental performance of buildings and the quality of their indoor environment, and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings. However, the application of technological development in the design and implementation of sustainable buildings faces a number of challenges, including high initial costs, a lack of digital proficiency and the need for training, operational compatibility between traditional and modern systems, and resistance to change. The study recommends raising awareness of the importance of these technologies, training industry professionals in their use, and improving their attitudes towards them.
