Poems Commemorating Libya’s Glorious Independence

This study examines selected examples of Libyan poetry associated with Libya’s independence on 24 December 1951. It highlights the presence of this national occasion in the consciousness of Libyan poets by presenting works by seven poets who witnessed independence or celebrated its anniversaries: Ahmed Al-Sharif, Ahmed Al-Faqih Hassan, Ahmed Rafiq Al-Mahdawi, Ibrahim Al-Huni, Ali Sidqi Abd Al-Qadir, Rajab Al-Majri, and Rashid Al-Zubair Al-Senussi. The study focuses on the poems’ expressions of joy, national pride, unity, freedom, sacrifice, justice, and the building of the state. It also reveals the simplicity of their language, the smoothness of their style, and their strong connection with Libyan national sentiment. The study emphasizes the importance of collecting, documenting, and publishing this poetic heritage for future generations.
