Abstract
Foreword: A Lamp against Twilight
This foreword is offered with quiet trembling, for those in Christ who still dare to test the spirits and not every glittering voice that walks across the stage of the modern church. It is written for the believer who has sat under a rain of ‘prophecies’ that never mention sin, never visit Calvary, never truly build up the inner man or call to holy living, yet cannot silence the small ache inside that whispers, ‘Something here does not sound like the Lamb who strengthens, exhorts and comforts His people’ (1 Corinthians 14:3).
In many assemblies today, the sanctuary has begun to resemble a spiritual stock exchange, where dreams are traded, encounters are advertised, and visions are marketed as premium experiences. The language is biblical, the cadence is familiar, yet the center of gravity quietly shifts from the will of God to the wishes of man. True prophecy bows the heart before the cross; counterfeit utterance kneels before our appetites. Scripture warned us long ago: “Test the spirits to see if they are from God” (1 John 4:1)
The work you hold in your hands refuses to flatter this drift. Like a lantern carried into a carnival, it exposes that much of what passes for prophetic today is, in essence, sanctified divination: a spirituality that promises shortcuts to destiny while quietly sidestepping repentance, doctrine and the fear of the Lord. Here the author does not chase personalities, but patterns. He traces how private revelations, mountain encounters and branded encounters can slowly displace the public, written Word of God.
Yet the aim is not to breed suspicion, but to restore sobriety. Read this study with an open Bible and a soft heart. Weigh every story by the testimony of Jesus, “for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Revelation 19:10). May the Lord use these pages to cleanse our ears, recalibrate our discernment and bring His church back from enchantment to obedience.
