Abstract
This study examines third-party businesses that farmers outsource husbandry activities to. The use of these businesses is a common phenomenon of global agriculture. The businesses them-selves can be termed small rural farm-support agribusinesses (SRFSAs). To further understand the challenges faced, and strategies implemented by SRFSAs, their owner-managers across New Zea-land were surveyed. The findings were analyzed using data observation, Friedman Tests, Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests, and Spearman Rank Correlation tests. The results indicated that the owner-manager rates relationship management, operational excellence and asset management as the most influential factors surrounding their business. Meanwhile input costs, rivalry and regulation were rated the least important. These findings indicate that the owner-managers focus on influ-encing the factors over which they have some control. Further, the surrounding land-use and farm types are the most influential characteristics relating to the owner-managers’ perception of their business success
