Abstract
Orofacial harmoniza on has gained increasing relevance in contemporary Den story by enabling complementary interventions aimed at improving the aesthetic c and func onal balance of the face, especially in alterations involving the lower third, labial dynamics, chin projection on, mandibular definition, and so tissue asymmetries. Considering the growing demand for minimally invasive procedures in patients with dentofacial asymmetries and deformities, this study aimed to analyze the contribu ons of orofacial harmoniza on as a complementary approach to the correction of these altera ons, considering indica ons, therapeutic limits, clinical resources, and integra on with other dental special es. This was an integrative literature review conducted in indexed scientific databases and platforms selecting original articles published between 2020 and 2026. Clinical studies, randomized trials, retrospective analyses, and case series related to botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid, and the complementary correction of facial asymmetries, gummy smile, chin retrusion, mandibular contour, and secondary labial deformities were included. The final sample consisted of 10 articles. The results indicated that botulinum toxin showed greater applicability in dynamic and muscular alterations, although with a temporary effect and the need for maintenance. Hyaluronic acid demonstrated greater utility in volume, projection, and contour corrections, with good satisfaction rates and a low occurrence of serious adverse events. It was concluded that orofacial harmoniza on may contribute complementarily in selected cases, provided that it is guided by anatomical diagnosis, rigorous clinical criteria, and interdisciplinary planning.
