Abstract
Chronic renal failure (CRF) is a health problem requiring long-term management, including fluid intake restriction. Non-compliance with fluid restriction remains a major problem that can worsen clinical conditions, such as fluid overload, edema, and cardiovascular complications. BARTOCAR method-based education (Brief, Active, Repetitive, Tailored, Observed, Controlled, Assessed, Reinforced) is a structured approach that has the potential to improve patient understanding and compliance. This study aimed to determine the effect of BARTOCAR education on fluid restriction compliance among patients with CRF. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study was conducted at RSUP M. Jamil Padang with 40 CRF patients undergoing hemodialysis, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a fluid restriction compliance questionnaire and fluid balance observation sheets. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis to determine frequency distributions and mean scores, followed by bivariate analysis using a paired t-test. The mean compliance score increased from 57.2 before intervention to 76.8 after BARTOCAR education. Bivariate analysis demonstrated a significant effect of BARTOCAR education on fluid restriction adherence (p=0.000; p<0.05), with a mean increase of 19.6 points. BARTOCAR education was effective in improving fluid restriction compliance among CRF patients. Integrating BARTOCAR education into standard patient education procedures may improve therapeutic outcomes and quality of life.
